Orange Pi FAQ

How do I get this up and running?

Orange Pi boards requires a few things to get started.

  • Pre-Imaged MicroSD card
    • We highly recommend using images directly from the Armbian Website. Orange Pi's website contain numerous images that only partially work and we highly recommend using community or Armbian images not found on Orange Pi's website for your specific board. We also recommend using Win32DiskImager as it is the most reliable flashing utility for Windows.
  • 5V 1A or higher current 4.0mm x 1.7mm power source
    • Orange Pi boards cannot be powered via MicroUSB like Raspberry Pi boards. They must be powered by a 4.0mm x 1.7mm center positive barrel plug.
  • SoC Heatsink
    • Orange Pi boards rely on software to maintain voltage levels to the SoC. Improper firmware may cause the CPU to overheat. We recommend a heatsink to minimize the chance of accidental damage.

Why does none of the LEDs light up?

LEDs are initialized by software during the boot process. If proper software is not flashed on the MicroSD card or eMMC, no lights will light up. This is not indicative of a software defect.
